Wheel Arch Rolling at Eclipse Performance

People are likely to enhance the look of their vehicle by fitting of large diameter wheels

and tyres (after market equipment). The latest trend is towards large sized rims that fill every inch of wheel space under the standard arches - and sometimes more.

One simple way to create more room for these oversized wheel and tyres is to have the arches rolled, to give you that room and the look that you afe after.

Successful rolling can depend on the condition of the paintwork (ie age) or previous repairs in that area. Heat is applied during the rolling process to allow the paint to flex so usually there is no problem with paint damage or cracking.

Limitations
Successful rolling will depend on the condition of the paint work. Usually if the paint is original there is no cracking. However, this can change if the vehicle:

  • is over 5 years old,
  • has had damage in this area that the arch is being rolled
  • has body filler under the paintwork around the wheel arch
  • has been modified in other ways before arch rolling
  • has any holes drilled around the wheel arch

Any modification to other parts of the wheel arch other than the area causing the damage may be necessary in some cases if:

  • if you are lowering the vehicle
  • Larger wheels and tyres
  • Excess load is constantly used in the back of the vehicle.

Other areas that may cause problems that may need looking at or modification include

•  Any plastic cowling that protects any wiring

•  Splash guards on the front wheel arch

•  Bumper front and rear

•  Wheel arch moulding (glued or screwed in type).
