Who are V Tune?
VTune is amongst the largest and most advanced performance tuning company’s in Europe, specialising in the development of performance ECU upgrades using the standard engine management system in your car!
How does it work?
Manufacturers build cars to be shipped all over the world so your vehicle is 'de-tuned' and set to run leaner (more air to fuel ratio) than is optimum for power and economy because it is designed to work equally well in Arctic and Equatorial conditions. Air density & humidity greatly affect the performance of an engine so it is compromised to work well in both sub-zero and extremely hot conditions.
Because the manufacturer has to produce vehicles for all over the world they need to be programmed to use varying qualities of fuel. For example the USA are selling unleaded fuel at 87 RON, as opposed to 102 RON which can be found in Asia and here in the UK. This compromise not only reduces your cars fuel efficiency, it also reduces its power too.
They also produce several versions of the same vehicle to meet different requirements for tax classes. The way they do this it to produce what is esencially the same spec of car, then 'de-tune' it to meet the lower requirements of the smaller classes. For example Volkswagen Audi Group manufacture a 1.9TDI engine that produces 90 BhP, 110 BhP, 130 BhP, 150 BhP; essentially these engines are identical but are 'de-tuned' to be sold to a wider spectrum of people at lower tax brackets by the manufacturer.
There are several reasons they 'de-tune' the vehicles, not least is because it is far cheaper to produce thousands of identical parts than it is to redesign slightly less spec parts and produce less of them. They also do it to compete with other manufacturers on desirability, price and insurance grouping. For example a 08 registration 1.9 GTdi Volkswagen Golf producing 110 BhP is insurance group 10 but the 130 BhP version is insurance group 13 when the mechanics of the vehicle are identical.
These comprimises hinder the performance greatly, in some instances by as much as 35%!
Our V Tune remaps simply reverse the 'de tuning' by the manufacturer, thus unleashing the power and fuel economy that your car already has the potential to produce! Hence it is completely safe!
As you can see vehicle manufacturers have to satisfy many different criteria before they can sell a vehicle. Having your vehicles ECU re-mapped changes all the parameters that are set for compromise, to optimise!
Better fuel consumption, more power, lower CO2 levels at optimum and usual driving conditions, reduces and eliminates flat spots giving you a smoother power curve for a better driving experience.
All of this can be achieved without reaching any of the safe tolerance put on the engine and therefore not affecting it's life.
As there are no physical changes to anything mechanical on the car your warranty should not be affected and the changes shouldn't be detected when you take your vehicle to the dealer for routine servicing. All we do is manipulate variables in the ECU code so we are not removing or replacing any original equipment on the vehicle. This is done within the manufacturer tolerances.
Please note, although every effort is made to make the changes undetectable, we cannot guarentee that either your insurance company or vehicle manufacturer will not be able to detect the changes.
How long does it take?
This varies between vehicles but usually its between 1 - 2 hours
